Tricia Newport

Project Medical Referent

When Trish was ten years old, she was so deeply shocked by images of starving children in Ethiopia that she was moved to do something about malnutrition. That feeling stayed with her, and so it was that the trained nurse and epidemiologist ended up doing humanitarian work.

Here in Agok, South Sudan, Trish – who is from Canada – heads the medical team. She makes station visits herself, stays in close contact with her team and intervenes whenever there is a problem. Trish is proud that, despite limited resources, she is able to maintain a relatively low mortality rate in the MSF hospital.
